3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige

3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige - Ink Drop

Sand Beige is the lighter of two tan browns in the 3 Oysters Hunters series. This is a beautiful sandy tan that varies widely based on the paper style you choose. The Hunters series is an early 2023 release, and 3 Oysters sent me the inks to try. They come in the beautiful, glass, 38ml 3 Oysters bottles, although mine arrived in branded, 5ml, eyedropper vials. I think the 5ml vials could be packaged together to form a really nice sample set.

3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige - on Cosmo Air Light

The swatch above on Cosmo Air Light (83gsm) shows the full range of shades in this beautiful, gentle tan ink. On uncoated papers, Sand Beige tends to lean more towards the yellow and light brown sides of the range. There is a surprising amount of variation, too. As you can see in some of the images, there is a hint of grey that develops in saturated areas, and it sometimes appears to create a subtle, subconscious green in the darker areas when you aren’t focused directly on the writing on uncoated papers. In all of these instances, sand beige is the perfect name for the colors.

Coated papers let the ink show off its darker tones in saturated areas of written strokes. It shows less as a yellow, and more as a beige or medium to dark tan. Again, there’s nice variation on coated papers, but light areas aren’t nearly as light, and the color range shifts a step or two darker overall. Visually, it’s an attractive ink, and I’d have a difficult time choosing between this and Sahara Tan, the darker brown in the series.

3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige - Color Range

Sand Beige is a nice writing ink. In flow, this is a wetter ink than the previous three reviewed from the series. It has a lower viscosity and a more watery feel. To be honest, I prefer the higher viscosity ooziness of the previous three, but that’s purely a personal preference. Sand Beige is well controlled and smooth on the page. For a lot of people, Sand Beige has the ideal consistency in an ink.

3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige - on Rhodia

Strokes were sharp and clean, and this seems to be a common quality in the Hunters series inks. Nothing disappoints me more than an ink that feathers and spreads, and so far, none of the inks in the series have had any problems at all. As you can see, there’s a nice darkened stroke edging, and that really makes strokes pop off the page. In lighter inks, that really helps in terms of clarity and readability. Drying times were approximately the same as the others, too. It was a tiny bit longer on some papers, but really not a concern.

3 Oysters - Hunters - Sand Beige - Writing Samples

3 Oysters Sand Beige is a nice ink. Sandy tan inks are not the easiest to get right. Often they are pretty, but not so great in terms of readability, or they are easy to read, but not really a sandy tan. 3 Oysters has done a great job with this one.
