PenBBS - 154 Zhu Ziqing

PenBBS - 154 Zhu Ziqing - Ink drop

I love a nice orange, and I think this should be a popular one! Today’s ink is Zhu Ziqing, No.154 from PenBBS. This ink honors poet, essayist, and Chinese literature professor Zhu Ziqing (1898-1948), an early proponent of modernism, and Chinese patriot.

PenBBS - 154 Zhu Ziqing - Light and dark shades

Visually, this is a beautiful, rich, and full citrus orange. It’s a wonderful shading ink, especially on coated papers. Light areas pop and sing in a bright, sunny, orange juice orange. Dark areas take on a slight red influence that deepens the base mid-orange to a rich, dark mandarin orange. Premium papers showed a moderate stroke halo, which emphasized definition and depth.

PenBBS - 154 Zhu Ziqing - Dark edging

As a writing ink, 154 Zhu Ziqing performed very well. It flows nicely, and is comfortable, although there is a slight dryness. Strokes were sharp on all papers. Drying was 15-20 seconds on premiums, and 5 on office copy. It’s always nice when inks are flexible across papers, and 154 Zhu Ziqing wrote very well on all six tested.
