Colorverse - Ham #65
South Korean Colorverse Ink is a highly innovative ink manufacturer, releasing inks in themed “Seasons”, and pioneering unique marketing and packaging practices. Today’s ink, Ham #65 (Glistening), is part of the season 4, Trailblazer in Space series, and it’s number 47 in their catalog. It comes packaged together with a non-shimmering version of the same color, which is also available in a 30ml bottle. I am a big fan of offering glistening and non-glistening versions of inks, and I wish more companies would take note! The name Ham # 65 comes from the history of space exploration. In 1961, NASA chimpanzee no. 65 (later to be known as Ham the Astrochimp) became the first Hominid to be launched into space.
This is a beautiful ink, and the glistening version is striking. Ham is a deep, teal blue, and it really shows off the unusual copper pink-peach shimmer. The shimmer isn’t heavy-handed and over-powering, either. There’s just the right amount, giving the ink the appearance of a clear, evening sky as it begins its fade to black, and the countless twinkling stars that slowly emerge to fill it.
On fountain pen friendly paper, this is a wonderful writing ink, with no feathering, and crisp, well-defined strokes. There isn’t a lot of shading, but the shimmer highlights everything nicely. It didn’t perform particularly well on standard office paper, with noticeable feathering and show through, but the glistening version isn’t really an office ink. On its own, the non-glistening would work perfectly fine in any setting.
If your paper is the good stuff, this ink is a real treat. The non-glistening version is now available on its own, but I highly recommend the two-bottle package. With a shimmering bottle and a non-shimmering bottle, you can enjoy this beautiful ink in any situation.
