3 Oysters Bukhansan - Ink Drop

I like deep orange inks, and today, we’ve got a nice one! Another of the I.Color.U series inks from 3 Oysters, today’s ink is Bukhansan. The name Bukhansan pays homage to a Korean mountain and national park of the same name. The only national park in the Seoul metro area, it’s a popular destination for hiking and climbing, and a great getaway from the city. The 836m mountain is famous for its three granite peaks, maple-filled forests, and the more than 100 Buddhist temples and hermitages that dot the park. The deep red-orange ink reminds me of the changing colors of autumn.

3 Oysters Bukhansan’s beautiful range of lights and darks!

Visually, 3 Oysters Bukhansan is a deep, rich, rusty, dusty red orange. It has a powdery appearance on uncoated papers, but has a gentle look on all. There’s a fair amount of shading, with light and dark areas balancing the base color. The splatter shows a blackened edge, and this becomes a dark edge halo on premium papers. This is a good-looking ink, with a lot of character.

As a writing ink, all of the 3 Oysters I.Color.U inks have performed quite well, and Bukhansan is no exception. With good flow and smooth feel, this ink is well-balanced. Strokes were clean and sharp on all six test papers, but the halo sharpens the profile on coated papers. Shading is cleaner on coated, but visible on all. Drying was 15-20 seconds on coated papers, 5-15 on uncoated premiums, and 5 on office copy.

3 Oysters Bukhansan dries fast, too!

Bukhansan is a very attractive ink, and a nice writer, too. It’s beautifully calm and comfortable. I’ve been impressed by all of the winter 2020 3 Oysters inks, and definitely recommend Bukhansan. If you make it to Seoul, consider a visit to Bukhansan National Park, as well!
