Antigua’s - Red Passion

Antigua's Red Passion fountain pen ink review

Antigua’s - Red Passion - Ink drop

Antigua’s offers two reds. I’ve reviewed Bourdeaux, the darker of the two. Today, we’ll look at Red Passion. While both show influences of pink, Red Passion is lighter, brighter, and far closer to a standard, middle red.

The pink influences are more visible on some papers than others. Coated papers tend to give something closer to a classic mid-red. Shading is inconsistent, but when you do get some, light areas show off the pink undertones. On uncoated papers, there is very little shading, but the base color is a delicious, uniform blushing pink red.

This is another very comfortable ink in flow. It’s wet, but drying was pretty fast on all papers tested. I found some feathering on Fabriano, Mnemosyne and Tomoe River, and slight spreading on uncoated papers, in general. Overall, however, it wasn’t an issue on the other high-quality, coated papers. On Cosmo Air Light (above) and Cosmo Air Snow (below), it’s razor sharp!

Show-through is again fairly consistent on uncoated papers. I used a wet, medium nib for testing, and something finer would likely reduce that issue considerably.

Antigua’s Red Passion is a nice red with a pink twist. At only €11.99 per bottle (a very nice bottle, by the way), it’s a very good buy. You can find it (and twenty other color choices) at www.antiguas.es. (And good news! Starting in January 2024, full international shipping will be available!)
