Birmingham Jade Inferno - Ink Drop

This fun ink is Birmingham Pen Co.‘s Jade Inferno. It’s part of their Rich Formula series of sheening inks. They make some powerful sheeners! Their inks are affordably priced, beautifully presented, and come in 30ml, 60ml, and enormous 120ml bottles. I always like having smaller and larger options like these.

Red, hot cinnamon sheen!

Visually, it’s a beautifully saturated, blue-green peacock. It’s a lovely balance of blue and green, and in the splatter, it reminds me a bit of Iroshizuku Ku-jaku. While Ku-jaku leans blue, Jade Inferno leans green. It’s a light to moderate shading ink, and a light stroke edging adds definition, as well. The splatter shows off the intense sheen, with a broad band of fiery magenta surrounding areas of pooling. In writing, there are sheen stroke accents, and stroke halo on premium papers. The combination of colors is quite stunning.

Birmingham Jade Inferno’s quick drying swatch card

As a writing ink, I really like the feel of this ink. It flows smoothly, and glides across the page very comfortably. Stroke profiles were clean and sharp. Moderate shading showed on all six test papers, adding personality without dominating. Sheen and halo were consistent across premium papers, but it didn’t show on office copy. Here again, they add character on premiums without distracting. The website warns of longer drying times, but I didn’t experience that at all. That’s a surprise for a strong sheening ink. Coated premiums dried in 15-20 seconds, uncoated premiums in 10-15, and office copy in under 5 seconds.

Birmingham Jade Inferno’s nice bottle and label

Jade Inferno is a beautiful ink, and the writing experience is a real joy! It performed very well, and it was free of the problems sometimes associated with sheening inks. Birmingham Pen Co. have a real winner in Jade Inferno!

Please note: This ink was sent to me by Birmingham Pen Company, but that did not influence my review. As always, I present my honest opinions both good and bad.
