BUNGUBOX Thumbelina - Ink drop

BUNGUBOX describes Thumbelina as a gentle, yet strong pink. I’d definitely say it is stronger than it is gentle, but that’s a good thing in a pink! Pinks can easily become impractical for writing if they wander too far on the soft and gentle side. That isn’t a problem here at all. This is a re-release of Mother, an ink they originally launched in May of 2012. The re-release pairs it with the BUNGUBOX exclusive Thumbelina Sailor Pro-Gear Mini.

As you can see, this is a rich and proud dark pink. On some papers, there’s more red, and on others you might call it a magenta pink. I think I prefer the redder results on Tomoe Rivert, but i’s beautiful and interesting in all cases. Wet on the page, there are distinct yellow and green qualities, but as it dries they generally disappear completely. On papers that show sheening, you’ll see traces of the yellow green in hints of sheening on the occasional stroke edge or stroke end. This is a nice shading ink with dramatic shifts from dark to light on some stroke ends.

Writing performance is pretty consistently quite good, but I did find some feathering on Iroful and a biit on Oasis. They were the exceptions, and in all other cases (including cheap office copy paper) it was very well defined. Flow and consistency were very comfortable. It’s wet, but not watery, and that gives you confidence as you write. Show-through and bleed were not a concern on any of the papers tested, either. In drying, it was just a bit longer than average, but never problematic. I like writing experience and performance with Thumbelina very much.

BUNGUBOX Thumbelina comes in the 30 ml heel-shaped bottle. It definitely is not the cheapest 30 ml ink available, but the bottle is beautiful, and I like the tasteful, sophisticated packaging, as well. BUNGUBOX puts together a beautiful product, and Thumbelina’s color doesn’t let that down. Enjoy!
