Colorverse Dust Storm - Ink Drop

Today’s ink is Dust Storm from Colorverse Inks. It’s part of their 5th season, The Red Planet, and it’s ink 67 in their catalog. This series centers around Mars, and its exploration. It was first released in a 65ml bottle packaged together with a 15ml bottle of Valles Marineris, but it’s also available in their 5ml mini bottles.

Visually, this is a very pleasant ink. It’s easy on the eye, and it looks great on paper. The base color is a gorgeous, golden sand. It’s a very nice shading ink, with strong light areas in creamy tan tones, and darker areas of khaki-yellows. The splatter reveals a dark chocolate edge to areas of pooling, and a slight silver sheen ring, but neither commonly show in writing. The ink looks more developed, and shows a darker halo on uncoated premium papers, but it’s equally sharp on all.

As a writing ink, Dust Storm performed very well on all six test papers. Strokes were clean and sharp. Shading was slightly stronger on coated papers, but overall aesthetics were weaker. This ink likes a little texture. Halo stood out on uncoated premiums, which boosted the overall look. Drying times were 10-20 seconds on the premiums. Office copy showed some nice shading, but halo disappeared. Drying was under 5 seconds.

This really is a very attractive ink, particularly on uncoated premium papers. It’s a nice shader with lots of character, and it’s very reader friendly. My only complaint is that it isn’t currently available in the 30 ml bottle, but that may change. Regardless, this is definitely an ink that I strongly recommend. People sometimes shy away from tan-khaki inks, and this ink will change their minds!
