Candy Marsala, is part of Ferris Wheel Press’ 2018 Original Trio collection. Today, it’s available in their beautiful, and beautifully packaged 85ml, 38ml, and 20ml bottles, or as part of their 3-ink, 5ml charger sets. I really appreciate having so many options. Smart business!

The word “marsala” comes from an Italian village near Sicily, and its famous wine. Marsala wine is often used in cooking to make rich, carmelized sauces. In 2015, Pantone chose 18-1438 Marsala for its color of the year. This ink is a good match for the Pantone color. The name Candy Marsala likely pays homage to one of these inspirations.

Undersaturated, yet warm, this is an earthy, muddy cherry, brown red. It’s a moderate shader that reveals a brighter pink-red in lighter areas. In the splatter, a gold sheen surrounds areas of pooling. On some papers, hints of sheen surface on the edges of strokes.

As a writing ink, it performed very well on all test papers. Strokes were extremely crisp and clean, with moderate shading, some edge sheen, and a dark halo on Rhodia, Mnemosyne, Kokuyo, and Apica. Drying times were from 15 to 30 seconds. It also performed well on office copy paper, which is always a plus (and never a given). Strokes were slightly less crisp, but drying time was only 5 seconds.

I’m impressed with the performance of this ink! It’s a beautiful brown burgundy that works well on a wide range of papers. Ferris Wheel Press put out some of the most beautifully packaged ink, as well, and I appreciate having multiple sizes as options. I highly recommend giving it a try.
