Like many in Graf von Faber-Castell’s catalogue, Garnete is a consistent, smooth-flowing, well-behaved ink. The inks come in a very tasteful, significant, and functional bottle, but they aren’t inexpensive.

Ranging from a deep reddish pink to a rich, brick red this ink is perfect if you’re looking for a refined, sophisticated red. It dries fairly quickly and cleans easily. Graf von Faber-Castell inks are very safe in my experience. There isn’t any shimmer, but it shades very nicely, and in the wettest applications, there’s a slight sheen that hints of gold and green. Strokes were clean and sharp on the wide variety of papers I use for testing.

Maybe it's the price, but it feels as if Graf von Faber-Castell inks are sometimes overlooked. They’re an enormous 75ml, but at around US$32 they’re definitely on the expensive side. That said, they do make some lovely inks and deserve more of our attention. If they offered 30ml or even 50ml bottles at the same price per milliliter, I think they would sell a lot more ink! Personally, I own a bottle of Cognac Brown (my personal favorite of the series) and have gone with samples for the others I’ve tried. Either way, if you do decide to purchase, Graf von Faber-Castell Garnet is a nice choice.
