To me, this aquatic greenish blue is like a breath of fresh air, and vastly different from so many seemingly similar inks in the turquoise family. Today’s ink is Indigo Qiancong, and it’s part of Lennon Tool Bar’s six-ink Indigo series. Lennon Tool Bar’s foundation stems from and celebrates Taiwan’s long association and accomplishment in indigo dyeing, so this is a very appropriate series. Qiancong translates as pale blue green (and green onion) and represents the greenish color that appears when unprocessed fabric is dyed a very light blue.

Visually, this is a gorgeous blend of aquamarine blue and sea foam green. The subtle, yet confident green influences make this ink far more complex than traditional, and far more commonplace, turquoise blues. Although there is variation, it isn’t a very strong shading ink. Likewise, there is a mild edge halo on coated papers, but I wouldn’t call it dramatic. This ink is really all about the special blend of blue aquamarine. It’s all about the color.

As a writing ink, Indigo Qiancong performs very well. It’s a nice wet, smooth-flowing ink, and it’s very well-behaved. Strokes were sharp on all six test papers, but coated papers add a darker element to the shading profile, and the moderate halo adds depth. Drying was 15-20 seconds on premiums, and 5 seconds on office copy.

Lennon Tool Bar Indigo Qiancong is a beautiful and unusual blue-green, and a lovely ink to use. Seeing it on the page gives you a feeling of health and happiness, and it’s hard not to smile when writing with it! I really like it.
