All hail the jaguar king! This is Monarca’s special edition Rey Jaguar (King Jaguar). Like all Monarca inks, it’s beautifully packaged and comes with a banak wood bottle holder/pen rest. In all ways, it’s a stunning product!

Monarca - Rey Jaguar - color range and edge

Rey Jaguar is a gorgeous, buttery caramel with the luxurious sparkle of a brilliant golden shimmer. The gold blends beautifully with the base color to create a warm, rich, decadent amber. It’s a complex ink (check out the interesting chromatography below), and the result really works well. This is a pretty ink, certainly fit for a king!

Monarca - Rey Jaguar - Shading and shimmer

Rey Jaguar is very comfortable in writing. It flows well, and the shimmer is of a very fine particle. It didn’t cause any problems at all. Water tests confirm what the chromatography reveals. This is a nicely water-resistant ink. It wants to shade (and will if you fill the pen gently without disturbing the shimmer), but the shimmer often steals the spotlight. A nice, darkened edging makes for a crisp, sharp stroke profile. I didn’t find any feather or bleed on friendly papers. Drying could be quicker, but it wasn’t a real problem. This is a nice writing ink.

This is the second of two samples that I recently bought, and I’ve enjoyed both of them. I hope to try more at some point. With interesting colors, trouble-free shimmers, and what look to be wild sheeners, Monarca offers a diverse range in just nine inks released so far. I definitely recommend Rey Jaguar, and I anticipate a bright future for this innovative brand. Enjoy!
