Organics Studio Willow Green ink drop

Organics Studio - Willow Green - Ink drop

This is Willow Green from Organics Studio. Introduced in 2016, it’s part of their Vintage Ink series. These are inks designed to be maintenance-free. They’re formulated to be safe for vintage pens and sensitive materials, and easy to clean.

This is a beautiful, organic yellow-green. It’s soft and warm, with a powdery, matte finish. It matches the aged-green of lighter willow leaves. In my mind, I see the inner leaves covering an ear of corn. The color implies the fibrous texture of certain long-leafed, yellow-green plants. It’s quite lovely.

As a writing ink, it’s neither wet, nor dry, but flowed well. It’s excellent across a wide range of papers, and it performed very well on the five that I use for testing. Best results were on Apica and Rhodia, but on Kokuyo and Mnemosyne it was very good, too. Strokes were crisp, clean, and well-defined. There was some nice shading, a clarifying halo, and a subtle, yellow sheen edge to some strokes. It also performed very well on office copy paper, which is always a big plus. Lines were fairly sharp, with no feather. Shading was rare, and there was no halo, but the yellow edge sheening remained! Drying times on the five ranged from 20-35 seconds.

I definitely recommend Willow Green. Few inks do so well across so many kinds of paper, and this is a very attractive, floral green. I’m really looking forward to exploring some of the hidden gems in Organics Studio’s catalog. They’re affordable, interesting, and I love the focus on safety and maintenance ease. This one is easy to like!
