Australian Opal Pink, is the third and final ink from the Robert Oster Australian Opals (there was a Mauve, but it was discontinued). We’ve come full circle! Opal Grey was a gorgeous shader with hints of multicolored undertones. Opal Blue was a lovely shader, but lacked the flashes of color that define opals. With Australian Opal Pink, we again have a prolific shader, and subtle glimpses of blue undertones!

Pinks can be tricky to get right. Visually, this is a complex ink. The base color is a soft, dusty, deep pink. It’s a strong shading ink, and the combination of shades contribute a lot to the overall color. Dark areas lean hard towards a magenta pink and contain strong blue undertones. Light areas become more of a cotton candy, light pink and fade considerably. Together, this leaves the impression of a lovely mid-pink, and is really quite stunning. The splatter shows the wide light-dark variation, and hints at the strong blue influence. There’s a dark edging, and thin silver sheen, but these aren’t seen in writing. I quite like this unusual pink.

As a writing ink, this opal is as strong as the other two. Strokes were clean and sharp, and shading was strong on all six test papers. Drying times were again a very quick 10-20 seconds on premiums, and under 5 seconds on office copy. There were no problems on any of the six papers.

Australian Opal Pink is a lovely ink. It won’t be for everyone, but it will please a lot of people. A beautiful pink isn’t always a great writing ink, but in this is case, it is both! It starts with a gorgeous, deep pink, adds a mysterious blue influence, and shades wildly. That combination is the key to its success! If you like pink inks, don’t miss this one!
