Tono & Lims - Fuyujitaku - Ink drop

This is an interesting ink, and not really a color profile that I normally enjoy. There’s something here, though. It has a feeling, and it sets a mood that is very comfortable and very appealing. Today’s ink is Fuyujitaku from Tono & Lims’ Friendship series. The name translates to “preparations for winter”, and this cool sepia ink does indeed have a very wintery feel.

Visually, this is a deliciously creamy, café au lait brown. It has a matte appearance that is comforting and friendly. This ink exudes a calm contentedness, and it feels perfectly at peace in the moment. There’s nice shading with both light and dark accents. Light areas reveal subtle hints of cinnamon pink-orange undertones. Dark areas lean more towards chocolate. A moderate halo edge adds definition to strokes on all papers except office copy.

As a writing ink, Fuyujitaku performs quite well. Although neither wet, nor dry, it’s smooth and well-behaved. This is a pigment ink, and it has a high level of water-resistance. Strokes were sharp and clean, particularly on premium papers, which all showed a nice halo edging. Shading was visible on all, with the strongest contrasts on coated papers. Drying was 20 seconds on premiums (although slightly faster on Fabriano, and slightly slower on Apica), and under 5 seconds on office copy.

Tono & Lims Fuyujitaku is quite attractive, especially for a color range that I don’t normally enjoy. I’m not going to call it beautiful, but it does have a unique flavor and appeal. Most notable is the feeling it gives both writer and reader. It’s a very calming, comfortable ink. With good water-resistance and a superior writing experience, this is a very nice ink!
