Troublemaker Inks Kelp Tea fountain pen ink

Troublemaker - Kelp Tea - Ink drop

Wow! Troublemaker Kelp Tea is one of those inks that really sets the company apart from many other ink makers. Kelp Tea is an interesting and very appropriate name for this fascinating, multi-chromatic ink.

From the very kelp-like brown-green base, a variety of different colors and shades generously emerge. Color combinations like this can be polarizing, but there’s so much beauty here when you pause to explore.

Results vary based on your paper. Coloration was strong, and inviting on Rhodia, and it really blossomed on Cosmo Air Light! The splatter gives you an idea of the variations and blends on Rhodia. There are strong orange and pink components (the pink even leans purple on CAL), and I sometimes sense the slightest, almost subliminal touch of blue at times. Areas of wet application develop a nice thin, but very dramatic black-lightning edging.

Troublemaker - Kelp Tea - Dark Edge

In writing, a peachy green-brown is the dominant color blend. Strokes are clean and sharp due to the defining black edging. This is a nice wet ink, and it flows very comfortably. Drying is average at 15-20 seconds, and it’s during this time that the hidden colors grow strength and emerge.

Troublemaker - Kelp Tea - Beautiful Shades

I really like Troublemaker Kelp Tea. There’s something very beautiful in what is a murky ink at first glance. This is a nice addition to some of the more famous multi-chromatic inks available. It’s a nice writing ink, and I think the artistic potential should make this a must-have for many! Enjoy!
