Utsunomiya INK Gyoza Brown - Ink drop

Utsunomiya INK is exclusively available from Ueno Stationery (Ue Bun) in Japan. The inks are made by Sailor and come in the 50 ml “Manyo” bottles. Today, we’re looking at Gyoza Brown, but there are five inks in the series. The gorgeous color caught my eye, and the delicious theme instantly made me smile. There was no question; I was bringing this ink home!

Gyoza are, of course, the delicious dumplings that we all know in one form or another. I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a dumpling! In color, this ink is every bit as tempting. For me, they’ve followed the recipe perfectly here. The burnt-butter brown shades well bringing out both lighter yellow tans and darker, more golden browns in different areas. Instantly, this became one of my favorites in the color category.

I can’t find a single negative in writing experience or performance. Strokes are very well defined with a nice dark edging. In terms of feathering, spread, or bleed through, you won’t have any concerns. Flow and feel are generous and luxurious. This is a very pleasurable writing ink, that let’s you enjoy the color and the process.

Outside of Japan, this isn’t going to be an easy ink to get, but it is absolutely worth the effort! They’re also nicely priced at JPY2,200 (approximately USD$13-$14), which means that even with international shipping, you can pick up a bottle fairly reasonably if you group it with one or two other inks.
