Sometimes an amazing magenta is the only color that truly answers the moment. I find them energizing, confidence inspiring, and optimistic in nature.

Today’s ink, Vinta’s Vineyard (La Union 1971) is a strong, vibrant, deep red-purple magenta. La Union is a beautiful coastal region about 3.5 hours north of Manila on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Although the tropical climate of the Philippines is not conducive to growing grapes, La Union is home to some of the very few wine producing vineyards in the country.

Vineyard La Union is a rich, syrupy magenta and pays proper homage to the grape skins and tannins that color the region’s red wines. The ink splatter reveals a heavy gold-bronze sheen that accents the magenta beautifully. In writing, the sheen is uncommon, but sometimes twinkles from the edges of strokes on some papers. It’s the strong character of the ink’s coloration that instantly grabs your attention, and makes it stand out as a beautiful writing ink.

Strokes are a deliciously dark, yet bright magenta. They’re razor crisp, and clean on Rhodia and Mnemosyne. Like many inks, it suffers from heavy feathering on cheap office copy paper, but that’s hardly surprising. Drying time was very reasonable. It was very fast on my swatch card, and it averaged 20-25 seconds on Rhodia Dot Pad.

I’m a big fan of this ink. It is a beautiful, bold ink inspired by a beautiful, bold location. If you like magentas, I definitely recommend Vinta Inks Vineyard (La Union 1971).
