The moment I saw the bottles, I knew I had to find this interesting brand. Jam Ink is made by Besen Masterpiece in Korea and is the in-house brand of their retailer Bestpen. This is a brand with a strong identity, and at first glance they register more as breakfast options than inks! Currently, they offer six colors based on flavors, and the inks come in cute, 30 ml jam jars for US$6.70! I purchased the three that made me hungriest!

Today’s ink is Peanut. It’s a beautiful, warm, dark caramel-peanut butter brown. It’s perfect for autumn! Although I wish there were more, there’s a nice stroke-end shading that brings out both lighter and darker elements. The splatter shows a dark edge sheen, which comes through as a strong, dark stroke halo in writing.

I tested Peanut on six papers, and overall, it performed very well. I think I prefer it on coated papers, but it was fairly consistent on all. I noticed a few tiny spots of feathering on uncoated Apica, but it was clean on the other five. It’s a nice writing ink, and dries quickly, too.

Peanut is a gorgeous mid-brown, and it was a nice introduction to the brand. The biggest problem is finding it! The only places I’ve seen it available is in Korea at Bestpen.kr (I don’t get anything from them, but here’s a link to the retail page for Jam Ink), and in the Philippines through a reseller on Shopee.ph. If that works for you, then I think you’ll enjoy Peanut. For everyone else, keep an eye out for Jam Ink, and hopefully they’ll be more widely available before too long!
