Kyoto TAG Kyo No Oto Ruriiro ink drop

Kyo No Oto - Ruriiro - ink drop

Well, I’m impressed! At the beginning of 2021, Kyoto TAG released their first two shimmer inks, and I’ve really been looking forward to trying them out. This is No.11 Ruriiro, from the Kyo No Oto line. Ruriiro means the color of lapis lazuli, and I think it matches this ink perfectly!

Like the semi-precious stone that inspired the ink, Ruriiro is a gorgeous, deep, powdery soft blue, glistening with streaks of sparkling shimmer. The shimmer here is a pinkish-bronze, and it looks fantastic against the blue. Adding to the beauty is a cloudy shading that gently transitions from the base blue to a cottony, lighter blue. This is a beautiful ink!

Kyo No Oto - Ruriiro - shimmer!

As a writing ink, it doesn’t disappoint. It’s a bit dry, but doesn’t perform poorly for it, and feels quite comfortable on the page. Strokes were clean and sharp, and it was very consistent in every respect, whether using coated or uncoated premiums. The only difference on office copy was slightly less shading. Drying was very fast at 5-10 seconds on premiums, and under 5 on office copy. It’s a fantastic writing ink.

Kyoto TAG consistently put out nice inks, and Ruriiro is a very impressive first shimmer! The shimmer itself is a beautiful very fine particle and didn’t cause any problems whatsoever. If you’ve avoided shimmers in the past, this is a great place to start!
