Online - Cranberry
Cranberry is from Online, an Austrian company making a wide range of stationery products. This is a scented ink, and it’s part of their Ink of the Senses series. The cranberry scent is mild and nicely done. It’s never off-putting, at all. Online inks are very affordable and come in 15ml, glass bottles.
Online Cranberry is very firmly in the middle-red category. There’s a hint of pink in shading, but the matte red base color is a very true red. As you can see in the swatch card comparison image, it’s very similar to KWZ Thief’s Red, which is kind of my benchmark for true red. This ink doesn’t shade as much as I’d hoped, with very little found in writing. It’s a nice, happy, matte candy red, but it isn’t without problems.
Unfortunately, problems became very clear in writing performance. I tested it on six papers, and feathering was a significant issue on all six. I used a juicy medium, and this is a fairly wet ink, so you might get better results with an EF nib. Drying was average and not a problem, but this level of feathering basically makes the ink unusable for real writing for me.
Online inks are priced so nicely. I really like the confident red of Cranberry, and the scent, as well. I’d love to be able to recommend the ink, but for writing purposes, I just had too many problems with feathering. There are lots of other uses and reasons to buy an ink, and maybe it’s right for you. If you like EF nibs, it may be worth a try, but this one is not for me.
