Over the last couple of years, Pennonia has become one of the most exciting makers in the European ink market. They offer a beautiful, ever-expanding range of inks, a gorgeous palette of liquid shimmers, and a custom ink lab. From sheeners, to shaders, to multichromatic shifters, they have something for everyone.

Pennonia - Rági - Color range

This is Rági. Although the name means “bubblegum” in English, and gum inspired the color, I think of this more as a complex salmon. From a mini-series of shading inks, this is a beautiful, cloudy shader, and the broader the nib, the greater the effect on the page. Dark areas and stroke edges lean towards a pale tomato red, while light areas offer the fatty flesh of sushi-grade salmon belly. Yum!

Pennonia inks are known to be consistent, enjoyable writing inks, and this is a comfortable, wet beauty! I didn’t try it in an extra fine nib, but my feeling is that this color works best in broader, wetter nibs, as Pennonia recommends. In my medium test pen, it was easy to read and performed beautifully on all six test papers. Drying time was a bit longer than average, but not problematic. This is a nice writing ink.

I like Pennonia Rági! It’s an easy ink to enjoy, and Pennonia is an easy company to support. Whether you’re looking for a writing ink, or something more adventurous, this is a nice choice. I wish I’d tried Rági sooner!
