Pioromaniak Sweet Morning fountain pen ink drop

Pióromaniak - Słodki Poranek “Sweet Morning”

Słodki Poranek is from Pióromaniak in Poland. This is an autumn 2020, limited edition. Słodki Poranek translates to “Sweet Morning” in English, and it’s a lovely name that matches this color well.

Visually, this is a delicate, soft, aqua blue. The color looks and feels healthy and undiluted. It reminds me of the picture perfect water in the Maldives, or the Caribbean. In the splatter, a dark edge surrounds pooling, and sheens a sliver of brilliant silver white. Written strokes don’t show any sheen, but the dark edging returns as a halo on premium papers, and this is a key contribution to the appearance of this ink.

As a writing ink, Sweet Morning performs quite well. It was very nice on premiums papers. Strokes were very sharp and clean with a dark, defining halo. Shading was strong, and softened the overall feel. It wasn’t as strong on office copy paper. The sharpness and halo disappeared, and strokes suffered from a slight blur, but feathering wasn’t a major problem. Shading was weaker, but was still visible. My only real complaint about the ink is drying time, which was fine on office copy, but on premiums it was 20-40 seconds. Overall, this is a nice writing ink.

Turquoise/Aqua blues are quite common, but visually, this is a very beautiful example. It’s also a nice writer, but 40 seconds drying is a bit longer than I like. This isn’t an unusual problem with Aqua inks, so I think most people will forgive it. If you’re willing to wait, then I definitely recommend Sweet Morning. There is a purity to this color that is enhanced by the strong halo on premium papers. Together they make this a very appealing ink to the eye.
