Tono & Lims - Blueberry Tapioca
Today’s ink is Blueberry Tapioca. Part of their January 2021 release, this is another of their limited-edition inks that would normally only be available at pen shows. Pink is a very difficult ink to get right. A beautiful pink isn’t always an easy-to-read pink. Tono & Lims balance the two perfectly in Blueberry Tapioca.
Visually, Blueberry Tapioca is a beauty! It’s a lovely, glowing, electric pink with a touch of violet undertones. The violet fades as the ink dries, leaving a well-defined, very legible pink. Mimicing some tapioca pearls in bubble teas, this is a shimmer ink that incorporates a rich, pearlescent shimmer that sparkles slightly blue-violet on the pink background. The splatter reveals a dark purple-pink edging, which shows as an edge halo in writing. There’s a bit of shading here, as well, making this a powerful, beautiful ink on the page.
As a writing ink, this is a solid performer. With the defining edge halo, strokes were clean and sharp on all six papers tested. Halo was strongest on Kokuyo and Apica, and shading was strongest on Kokuyo, as well. However, like most shimmer inks, this isn’t a very heavy shader. Drying was 15-25 seconds on premiums, and 5 seconds on office copy.
With the beautiful base color, and the stunning pearl shimmer, I think this will be a popular ink. Keep in mind, this is a limited-edition ink, and it won’t be around for very long.
