Herbin - Orange Indien

Although my bottle is labeled as “J. Herbin”, the line has been rebranded as simply “Herbin”. It comes in a larger 30 ml bottle, as well, but I really like these 10 ml bottles. They’re priced very nicely, as that allows you to pick up a variety without thinking spending too much.

Orange Indien is a bright, cheery, light orange, but dries to a dusty, deep brownish-orange. On some papers, it is brighter than others. On some uncoated papers, it produces a powdery orange that is nice, too.

In writing, this is a smooth flowing, reliable ink. Strokes are generally sharp and clean. Drying was average, or a bit better than average. As with some (but not all) orange inks, I have found some crusting issues when it is left in a pen for extended periods. It’s easy to clean, but not something I enjoy.

This is a very wet, watery ink, and I'd suggest using it in a well-controlled pen. The color is nice, and it writes well. If I didn’t experience the crusting issues, I would recommend this ink. You may be different, but personally, I don’t have a lot of tolerance for that problem. The choice is yours.
