Colorverse Alpha Cygni - Ink Drop

This is Alpha (a) Cygni in the Constellation series from volume 2 of the Colorverse Project inks. It’s ink 010 in their catalog. The Constellation inks are all named for the brightest stars (“a” or alpha stars) in various constellations. Also called Deneb, Alpha Cygni is part of Cygnus, the swan constellation.

Colorverse Alpha Cygni colors and shimmer

Alpha Cygni’s intense colors and shimmer!

I think Colorverse has really created something special here, and it couldn’t be clearer after seeing that splatter! The beautiful blues and high-voltage shimmer are just stunning. The subtle citrusy, greenish yellow that emerges in areas of saturation, and in the centers of written strokes adds another dimension to the complex effects and coloration. As a shimmer ink, there’s very little in the way of standard shading, but there is a lot of color variation. This is a gorgeous, very modern, and stylish ink.

Colorverse Alpha Cygni strong edge

Alpha Cygni’s strong edge

I noticed a comment on a popular online seller. It basically said that this ink is too light and faded to be usable. I strongly disagree. I tested it in a fairly juicy, medium nib using three popular coated papers and three uncoated papers. Personally, I much prefer the coated papers for the crisp stroke edging and wonderful variation in color within each stroke, but it was very legible on all six papers. I’d even call it dark at times, and I can only imagine that the commenter used an EF nib on uncoated paper. There were a couple of spots of light feathering on uncoated papers, but none on the three coated. Drying was quick on uncoated, but only average on coated. The shimmer didn’t cause any issues, and the ink was comfortable on the page. This is a nice writing ink.

Go with medium or wider nibs and coated papers to get the most out of this interesting and attractive ink. I don’t think there is any chance that you’ll consider Colorverse Alpha Cygni too faded to be usable if you pair it this way. Enjoy this fun and beautiful ink!
