Itoya x Sailor - The Lion King
Itoya x Sailor The Lion King - Ink drop
Itoya’s Disney 100 is a nine-ink series celebrating the 100th anniversary of Disney. It’s a nicely balanced series. This is my second ink from the series, and it won’t be my last (I have my eye on one more, but that’s for a future trip.) This ink celebrates the Disney mega-hit, The Lion King.

I see the rich, earthy browns of the African savannah in this ink. This is a nice shading ink, and it’s easy to imagine such colors in a rocky outcrop as the Lion King Mufasa looks out across The Pride Lands. There is a dusty, visual dryness to the cool tones I found on most papers. Red undertones lead to hints of pink and purple on papers such as Iroful. On Tomoe River and some others, it brightens and lightens with an orangish glow, as if the first drops of rain were finally relieving the soil of a long, arid summer. On Rhodia and regular office paper, it’s a nice dark caramel brown.

Dryness won’t come to mind in the writing experience. In flow, this is a moderately wet, well-balanced ink. Sailor always seems to get it right in terms of writing experience. In performance, there’s little to worry about, as well. There’s some micro-feathering in my long writing sample, but I only found that on Cosmo Air Snow. In general, it was very well behaved.

I like both of the inks that I’ve tried from Itoya x Sailor Disney 100 series. I’d like to see 30 ml rather than the 20 ml size that they offer for the price, but these are nice inks. You can find them at any of the Itoya stores in Japan, or at Itoya online with international shipping available.
