The Colours of Catasy series is one of the most popular of the four “Colours of” series from Pierre Cardin Writing Instruments. This is a six-ink series with bottles available individually or in a beautiful box set. All six are shimmer inks, and Pierre Cardin consistently make some of the most trouble-free shimmer inks on the market. The beauty we’re looking at today is Exotic Shorthair Amber.

The base color of Exotic Shorthair Amber is a warm, golden yellow. This is a nice shading ink that deepens to an amber in saturated areas and lightens to a sunnier, summer yellow on stroke ends. The shimmer is a soft, pale gold. Pierre Cardin is always very generous with the amount of shimmer in their inks. I wanted to show the ink naturally, so for these images I filled the pen as I think most people do. However, my tip is to fill the pen 75% without agitating the shimmer at all, and then giving the bottle just a slow, gentle twist before filling the remaining 25%. In either case, the shimmer is of an extremely fine particle and didn’t cause me any additional concerns.

Writing performance is consistently very good with the Pierre Cardin inks that I’ve tried. On all papers tested, strokes are clean and crisp with no spreading or feathering. I haven’t found anything negative to say in terms of writing performance or writing experience.

Exotic Shorthair Amber is a gorgeous ink. Individually, the Colours of Catasy inks come in the octagonal, 30 ml bottles (US$13). In the boxed set (US$68), they come the taller, thinner, 25 ml bottles, that I’ve shown here.

I’ve said it before, but it’s still true today; this brand deserves more attention! Based in Hong Kong, Pierre Cardin does a great job of promoting their wide range of products in Asia. They are very active in the fountain pen and creative arts communities throughout the region, and I hope they take that next global step.

Special thanks to @imokyoung at Pierre Cardin in Korea for gifting me this ink! She’s an absolute superstar!
