Shanghai Stationary Queeny at the Clubs - Ink drop

Queeny at the Clubs is from Shanghai Stationary’s Nightskies series. The Nightskies series consists of interesting shimmer ink combinations. Their website describes the ink by saying, “imagine the Queenmother descends from her palace to join the fairies going out dancing on a friday night in the city”. I think this actually captures a lot about the ink and shimmer combination really well. It’s an unusual combination, but it’s very attractive.

Ink Swatches on Cosmo Air Light and Tomoe River

They describe the color as rosepink, but I more often see it as an aged violet. On some papers I see browns and greys in the blend, as well. It mixes substance and significance with an ethereal quality, that really matches well with the theme of a Queenmother’s evening celebration. The violet shimmer really brings it all together. There is some very nice shading here, more than I would have expected in a shimmer ink.

I don’t have any complaints about the writing experience. This ink simply performs well, and the fine shimmer doesn’t cause problems in flow (or pen cleaning). I’d call it a neutral to wet ink in flow and feel, and drying times were just slightly longer than average. Stroke edges were sharp with no real problems with feathering or spreading. This is a very satisfying ink.

This is an interesting and attractive ink. The 30 ml bottle comes secure in their newly re-designed packaging for €17.50. Nicely done!

I really want to thank Astrid and Emile at Shanghai Stationary for sending this and several other new inks over. It was such as a nice Christmas surprise! And the beautifully designed, hand-made card included (and available on their website) really showcases their love for artistry. Their products reflect this same passion.
