Tono & Lims - Seaside Sand - Ink drop

This stunning ink is Seaside Sands from the prolific team at Tono & Lims. The pace and intensity of their creative output is astonishing. Seaside Sand is part of a three-ink, limited “Seaside” mini-series. The series includes Seaside Water, (a marine teal), and Seaside Tan (a mahogany brown).

Visually, this is a gorgeous, deceptively simple ink. The uncoated swatch card shows an attractive, sandy, straw or grain yellow. It’s calming and pleasant, and exactly what I expected. However, this ink really comes alive in the splatter, revealing a much more complex disposition on coated papers. The buttery, sandy yellow takes on much richer, deeper tones, with wide variation in shading. Darker areas become almost a perfect caramel. Light areas brighten, as if kissed by the sun. Pooling blends to a wide band of burnt tan-brown with subtle hints of dark sheen. This is a warm, extremely inviting range of colors.

Tono & Lims - Seaside Sand - Ink Swatch Card

As a writing ink, Seaside Sand performs quite nicely. On premium papers, strokes were razor-sharp, in part due to the well-developed, dark halo edge. Shading was very good in general, but particularly strong on coated papers, where it showed a very wide range in coloration. Drying was a fairly quick 15-25 seconds. It wasn’t quite as successful on office copy, but it was still pretty good. Stroke profiles were good, but there was some slight feathering. The overall coloration was lighter, and there was no halo, but shading was surprisingly strong! Drying here was under 5 seconds.

This is a beautiful, complex ink, with a very appealing range of coloration. It’s extremely calming, yet it pops off the page. It’s a wonderful writing ink on premium papers, and it’s extremely reader friendly. I strongly recommend grabbing a bottle.
