Herbin - Rouge Caroubier
Herbin Rouge Caroubier is named for the vibrant red blossoms of the carob tree, and this cheery ink is a perfect match! Part of Herbin’s standard line, it’s available in 30 ml and 10 ml bottles making it an affordable addition to your collection.
Rouge Caroubier is a bold, confident red with a hint of pink that adds lightness and fun. To me, it conjures images of summertime candy. The color pops off the page with high contrast. It’s ideal for editing and grading, or art projects, but maybe not for long writing needs. There’s a bit of shading, but I wouldn’t mind more. It’s a happy, playful ink and reminds me of Pelikan Edelstein Star Ruby.
Herbin inks are well-formulated, consistent writers, and Rouge Caroubier is wet and reliable. I love it on coated papers, where it performed flawlessly without feather or bleed. However, on some uncoated papers, I occasionally found very slight feathering. Overall, it performs very well. Drying was quick at times, and it was never a problem at all. In writing, there are no unpleasant surprises with this ink.
I like Herbin inks of all kinds. The 30ml bottles are nice, even though the built-in pen rest is largely unusable with many wider, modern pens. I recommend the 10ml bottles. They’re a very affordable way to quickly diversify your ink arsenal, and a great way to try some colors new to you. Enjoy!
