Hase Glass Studio is a one-artist glass workshop and retail showroom in Sakado City, Saitama, Japan. Owner Naohiro Hasegawa makes exquisite glass pens, jewelry, and art pieces. Hase has collaborated with Tono&Lims to create over 50 inks, and they continue to expand that range on a regular basis. Let’s take a look at Enka Red Purple.

Ink Swatches on Cosmo Air Light and Tomoe River

Enka Red Purple is part of the nine-ink Enka series of chromoshading, color-shifting beauties. They are particularly gorgeous when used with generous applicators as in the swatches shown here, this is also a very attractive writing ink. Different papers bring out different qualities and varying ranges of color in the more saturated areas of the swatches. On many it is clear balance of red and purple, on others it is a deep purple that you might find in some red wines. In writing, it fairly consistently shows strong shading and personality. I really love the bold results on Tomoe River, Bank paper, and Rhodia.

Ink Swatches on Iroful and Takasago Bank Papers

This is a Tono&Lims ink, and it writes exactly the way you would expect. It’s definitely a wet ink, but it doesn’t lack substance. It has a nice comfortable flow and feel. It also performed consistently with no problems in terms of feather or spread (other than over the fingerprint on the Cosmo Air Light swatch writing). The Cosmo Air Snow writing sample has more color variation in real life, and the shading is similar to what you find on standard copy paper. It’s a nice writing ink.

You can find some of the Hase inks at stores carrying Tono&Lims inks (Yoseka had Enka Red Purple in stock for a time and may again), at various pen and ink events (I bought my bottle at the Tono&Lims Seoul SpaceWalk event in Oct, 2025), or directly from Hase Glass Studio (at about half the price [¥2,200] before international shipping).
